Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients
  • 2 cups applesauce (unsweetened, homemade if possible) For the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup Pure for optimal flavor; can substitute with agave nectar.
  • 1 cup oats Quick-cooking or rolled for added texture.
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour Or all-purpose for a lighter texture.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Make sure it’s fresh!
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon To warm up the cake beautifully.
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg For extra cozy flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To balance the sweetness.
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Walnuts or pecans work great.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the applesauce, maple syrup, and oats until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, ensuring there are no lumps.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until everything is combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts, if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick; if it comes out clean, it's ready.
  2. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before flipping it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. You can also freeze for 2-3 months.
