Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the applesauce, maple syrup, and oats until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until everything is combined.
- Fold in the chopped nuts, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
Baking
- Bake for 30-35 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick; if it comes out clean, it's ready.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before flipping it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
