Base Ingredients
  • 8 tablespoons butter Rich flavor and helps create a golden top.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped Sauté until soft and fragrant.
  • 1 cup celery, chopped Sauté with onion.
  • 2-3 cups warm broth (chicken or turkey) Adjust depending on bread type.
  • 2 large eggs Help bind the stuffing.
Bread Ingredients
  • 10 cups day-old bread, cubed Use country white, Italian, French, sourdough, or cornbread.
Seasonings and Add-ins
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sage Use to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme Use to taste.
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped Add at the end.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Sauté onion and celery in butter until soft.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dried bread cubes with the sautéed vegetable mixture.
  3. Whisk together the eggs and warm broth, then pour over the bread and toss until evenly moist.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Loosely spoon stuffing into the turkey cavity or transfer to a greased baking dish.
  3. Bake in oven for about 45-60 minutes or until internal temperature of the stuffing reaches 165°F (74°C).
  4. For a crisp top, broil for a few minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Mix your stuffing and refrigerate it if preparing ahead of time. Bring to room temp before baking. Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian option. Adjust broth amount for a softer or firmer stuffing.
