Ingredients
  

Tea Base Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup Thai tea leaves Look for good-quality loose-leaf tea or pre-packaged Thai tea blends.
  • 4 cups hot water Essential for extracting flavor from the tea leaves.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt Enhances flavors.
Thai Style Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 2-3 Tablespoons evaporated milk
American Style Ingredients
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 3-4 Tablespoons half and half
Additional Ingredients
  • 1 pint glass packed full of ice To cool your drink.

Method
 

Prepare the Thai Tea Base
  1. Steep the tea: In a heat-proof vessel, combine 3/4 cup of Thai tea leaves with 4 cups of hot water. Steep for 5 minutes until the color is a deep amber hue.
  2. Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer into another bowl to remove the leaves.
  3. Add 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/8 teaspoon of salt to the strained tea, stirring until fully dissolved. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
For Thai Style
  1. Fill a serving glass with ice.
  2. Pour 3/4 cup of cooled tea base into the glass, then stir in 1 1/2 Tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. Drizzle 2-3 Tablespoons of evaporated milk over the top.
For American Style
  1. Use the same glass filled with ice, but replace the condensed milk with 1 Tablespoon of sugar and drizzle with 3-4 Tablespoons of half and half.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh. Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
