Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider Use fresh, unfiltered cider for the richest flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup You can use brown sugar in a pinch, but maple syrup truly elevates this concoction.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon Using fresh ground cinnamon can make a significant difference in flavor.
  • 3 ounces bourbon A smoother bourbon, like Woodford Reserve, works wonderfully here.
  • apple slices For garnish.
  • cinnamon sticks For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups apple cider, 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a small saucepan.
  2. Stir gently to combine, making sure the maple syrup dissolves fully.
Heating
  1. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and watch closely.
  2. Heat until the mixture is steaming but not boiling, about 5 minutes.
Adding Bourbon
  1. Once the cider mixture is warmed through, remove it from the heat and pour in 3 ounces of bourbon, stirring gently to integrate.
  2. Avoid boiling after adding the bourbon to preserve its flavor.
Serving
  1. Divide the mixture evenly between two heatproof mugs.
  2. Garnish each mug with a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick.
  3. For an extra touch, whip some cream to float on top of each drink.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat before serving. Customize by swapping spirits or adding spices as desired. For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon and add caramel syrup.
