  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise Use a quality mayo for richness; homemade is incredible too!
  • 1/4 cup Italian dressing Look for a robust dressing that packs a flavorful punch.
  • 1/4 pound salami Select a high-quality Genoa salami for the best taste.
  • 1/4 pound ham Honey-baked ham adds a lovely sweetness.
  • 1/4 pound provolone cheese This cheese brings a creamy texture.
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers They add a mild tang; substitute with jalapeños for more heat.
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced Soak them in cold water for a milder flavor.
  • 1/4 cup roasted red peppers Choose jarred or homemade.
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced Kalamata olives are a fantastic choice.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves Fresh basil is a must!

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a serrated knife, slice the loaf of Italian bread horizontally in half, leaving the halves attached on one side.
  3. Generously slather the mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bread loaf.
  4. Drizzle the Italian dressing evenly over the mayonnaise.
  5. Layer the salami, ham, and provolone cheese on top of the dressing.
  6. Evenly distribute the banana peppers, red onion, roasted red peppers, black olives, and fresh basil leaves over the cheese.
  7. Place the top half of the bread loaf against the layered ingredients.
  8. Wrap the assembled sandwich tightly in aluminum foil.
  9. Place the foil-wrapped sandwich on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  10. Remove the sandwich from the oven and let it cool slightly before unwrapping and slicing into squares.
  11. Serve your Italian Sub Squares warm.

Notes

Use the freshest ingredients for the best flavor. Leftover squares can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can freeze portions for up to 2 months.
