Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree (unsweetened, no spices; I highly recommend Libby’s)
  • 2 cups oat flour (or finely blended oats; Bob's Red Mill has great options) If you don't have oat flour, blend rolled oats to make your own.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (I like Mott’s)
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (xylitol-free; look for brands like Justin’s) Ensure peanut butter does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Optional, but adds warmth.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, applesauce, and peanut butter. Mix until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually stir in the oat flour and cinnamon (if using), until the dough is thick but slightly sticky.
  4. Take small portions of dough and roll into sticks approximately 4 to 5 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Lay them on the prepared baking sheet with space between each for even baking.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the sticks feel firm.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
Storage
  1. Store the snack sticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, refrigerate for up to two weeks, or freeze for up to three months.

Notes
