  • 500 g beef liver, sliced Opt for fresh, high-quality liver from a trusted butcher.
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and sliced Use a sweet variety like Fuji or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Choose a sweet onion for a mild taste.
  • 2 tbsp butter Use high-quality unsalted butter; let sit at room temperature.
  • 1 tsp salt Use sea salt for added nuance.
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper Freshly ground for enhanced flavor.
  • 1 tbsp flour Helps create a nice crust on the liver.
  • 1/2 cup beef broth Homemade or store-bought.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat until melted and foaming.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Dust the beef liver slices lightly with flour.
Cooking
  1. Push onions to the side and add the liver slices to the skillet; cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  2. Add the sliced apples to the pan and cook for another 2 minutes.
  3. Pour in beef broth and scrape the bottom to release flavors; let simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days; can be batch cooked and reheated.
