Cooking Process
- In a large pot over medium heat, pour in the tablespoon of olive oil. Allow it to shimmer, becoming hot and fragrant—this usually takes about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the sliced chicken sausage to the pot. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned.
- Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the uncooked orzo, chicken broth, and milk. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring continuously to prevent sticking.
- Cover the pot and let it cook for 8-10 minutes until the orzo absorbs most of the liquid.
- Uncover the pot and mix in the broccoli florets and grated Parmesan cheese. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender.
- Season the dish with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix everything thoroughly and serve immediately.
