Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cups brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter (melted, plus more for greasing)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 0.5 cups milk (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted, for topping)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while you prepare the pan and batter.
  2. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with a bit of melted butter or cooking spray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Topping and Baking
  1. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar with ground cinnamon, then drizzle the melted butter over the batter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  2. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Once cooled, slice the bread with a serrated knife.

Notes

For best results, use unsalted butter and whole milk. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to three months. Consider adding chocolate chips, nuts, or swapping spices based on your preference.
