Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 4-5 medium medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Firms, tart varieties preferred for their contrast to sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For a richer, deeper sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Generous sprinkle for flavor.
For the Cobbler Batter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Use at room temperature for better blending.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Gluten-free substitute works well if needed.
  • 1/2 cup white sugar To balance flavors.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Essential for fluffiness.
  • 1 cup whole milk Can substitute almond milk for dairy-free.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Adds warmth.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by peeling and slicing 4-5 medium apples. Toss them in a bowl with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  3. Place 1/2 cup of butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven while it preheats, allowing the butter to melt gently.
Making the Batter
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of white sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 cup of milk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract until you achieve a smooth batter.
Assembling and Baking
  1. Once the butter is melted, remove the baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter over the butter without stirring, and then evenly distribute the apple mixture on top.
  2. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
