Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spray an 8x8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, stir together the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.
- Beat in the large eggs and then the egg yolk one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add in the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and apple pie spice until well blended.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until fully incorporated; be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the diced Granny Smith apples.
Baking
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the baking dish. Once cooled, drizzle generously with caramel sauce.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with fresh apple slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
