Preparation
- Preheat your oven and whip up your favorite brownie recipe or a boxed mix, adding in espresso powder if desired. Once baked, allow them to cool completely, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until well-blended. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to thicken and then refrigerate.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract using an electric mixer until soft peaks form. (If using whipped topping, you can skip this step!)
Layering
- In a large glass dish or individual dessert cups, begin layering the ingredients! Start with a layer of brownie cubes, then a layer of chocolate pudding, followed by a generous dollop of whipped cream. Repeat these layers until your container is full, finishing with a big layer of whipped cream on top.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips or cookies crumbs on top and drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce for an extra touch.
Chill
- Chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator before serving to let the flavors meld together.
Notes
If making the trifle a day in advance, assemble the dessert but add toppings just before serving for freshness. This dessert can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
