Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries Use ripe, sweet blueberries for the best flavor. Frozen is a great option year-round!
  • 1/4 cup bourbon A smooth, mid-range brand like Buffalo Trace or Maker’s Mark is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice Freshly squeezed enhances flavor and acts as a natural preservative.
  • 1 box fruit pectin powder (1.75 ounces) Using a powdered pectin ensures that your jam sets nicely. Certo brand is recommended.
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar Adjust based on your sweetness preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the blueberries. Using a spoon or a potato masher, gently mash them until they begin to release their juice, yet still retain some texture (about 5 minutes).
  2. Stir in the bourbon and fresh lemon juice, allowing those flavors to meld beautifully.
  3. Sprinkle the pectin evenly over the berry mixture. Stir until the pectin is fully dissolved (about 2 minutes).
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and stir frequently until the mixture reaches a full rolling boil (about 5 minutes).
  5. Quickly add all the sugar at once, stirring constantly until the mixture returns to a full rolling boil. Boil for exactly 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and skim off any foam that forms on the surface. Let it cool for an hour before transferring to jars or airtight containers.

Notes

Ensure ingredients like blueberries and lemon juice are at room temperature. Store in clean, sterilized jars. For long-lasting results, consider processing jars in a hot water bath for about 10 minutes. You can prepare the jam ahead of time and freeze for up to a year.
