Preparation
- In a large bowl, place the sliced apples and pour the bourbon over them. Mix gently.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add to the apples and toss to coat. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out one pie crust into a 12-inch circle and place it into a 9-inch pie pan.
- Spoon the apple filling into the prepared crust.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filled pie. Seal the edges.
- Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and cut small slits for venting.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 55 to 60 minutes.
- Allow the pie to cool before cutting and serving.
Notes
For extra flaky crust, chill the butter before mixing. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days.
