Ingredients
  

Apple Filling
  • 10 cups 10 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced You can mix with Honeycrisp apples for added sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup Bourbon Quality bourbon enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash kosher salt
Crust
  • 2 pieces unbaked pie crusts, homemade or store-bought Butter Flaky is recommended.
  • 1 large egg, room temperature, beaten For brushing on the top crust.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, place the sliced apples and pour the bourbon over them. Mix gently.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add to the apples and toss to coat. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out one pie crust into a 12-inch circle and place it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Spoon the apple filling into the prepared crust.
  4. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filled pie. Seal the edges.
  5. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and cut small slits for venting.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 55 to 60 minutes.
  7. Allow the pie to cool before cutting and serving.

Notes

For extra flaky crust, chill the butter before mixing. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days.
