Preparation
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with 2 ounces of Amaretto liqueur, 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1/2 ounce of simple syrup, and 1/2 ounce of egg white if desired.
  2. Shake the mixture vigorously without ice for about 15 seconds to incorporate the egg white.
  3. Add crushed ice to the shaker and shake again for an additional 15 seconds until well-combined and icy cold.
  4. Use a cocktail strainer to pour the mixture into a low-ball glass filled halfway with fresh crushed ice, allowing some froth to remain on top.
  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a twist of orange or lemon peel.
