Preparation
- Preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes at the hottest setting (typically 400°F).
- Combine all ingredients except for ketchup in a medium mixing bowl. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal parts and shape them into ~4½ inch patties. Make an indention in the center with your thumb to prevent puffing.
Cooking
- Carefully place the burger patties into the hot air fryer basket. Brush the top of each with ketchup or BBQ sauce.
- Air fry at 370°F for 5 minutes.
- Flip the burgers, brush the other side with ketchup/BBQ sauce, and air fry for an additional 3-6 minutes, until they reach the desired doneness (internal temperature of 160°F for medium).
- Immediately place cheese on the hot patties and turn off the air fryer. Leave them in for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Serve the burgers on toasted buns with your choice of toppings.
Notes
For best results, ensure ground beef is at room temperature before cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
